A lower tuition fee is a helpful starting point. To decide whether a course is affordable for you, also compare its duration, housing costs and the skills you will develop.

How do you find a UK master’s with lower fees?

Compare international tuition for the exact full-time course and intake, then compare the whole study budget. A low “from” price may refer to a different programme, a home fee, a top-up qualification or distance learning. None establishes the cost of your chosen campus master’s.

The examples below are evidence for budgeting, not a ranking of the cheapest UK universities. First filter for your academic background and the subject you want; a low fee is useful only for a course you can enter and want to complete.

Evidence sourcePublished figureWhat still needs checking
Teesside · MSc Applied Data Science£17,000 a year for 2026/27. January route: 16 months including a summer break.Confirm total tuition for the full January course, component English requirements and exact 2027 calendar.
Sunderland · postgraduate fee scheduleInternational full-time MA/MSc Extended Award: £18,335 for 2026/27; £18,885 for 2027/28.This is a particular award category, not a price for every MSc. Verify the exact course and qualification structure.
Liverpool · MSc Advanced Computer Science · January 2027£34,000 per year for an international full-time place.Higher-fee reference example; check the course period and all additional costs.

Do not compare these figures as interchangeable qualifications. The Sunderland award category, Teesside course and Liverpool course have different purposes. A shorter list of suitable courses is more useful than a long list of low prices for programmes you cannot or should not study.

Annual tuition and complete course tuition are different

Ask the university what you will pay for the whole degree. A page saying “per year” beside a sixteen-month course needs clarification about the charging period and instalments. Do not automatically multiply by sixteen-twelfths, and do not assume twelve-month tuition covers everything.

Separately calculate the living period. A longer break may still require housing and daily expenses even if no extra tuition is charged. Confirm whether a placement or practice period extends the course and whether it has its own fee.

Why a scholarship price needs another line

Record gross tuition, confirmed award and net tuition separately. An “up to” scholarship can depend on country, academic result, intake, early payment or another condition. A published scholarship page does not mean every applicant receives the maximum. Check whether different discounts can be combined and when the award is credited.

If no award has been confirmed, keep an affordable-without-scholarship scenario. This prevents a provisional discount from turning into a funding gap after the deposit is paid. Check the refund and deferral terms before transferring money.

A hypothetical lower-fee comparison

Suppose Course A has tuition of £17,000 and a sixteen-month living period, while Course B has tuition of £20,000 and a twelve-month living period. Using an invented £1,000 monthly living allowance, each totals £33,000 or £32,000 before additional expenses. Course A has the lower tuition but the higher scenario total.

These are invented comparison inputs, not quotations for named universities. The exercise shows why duration and accommodation can change the decision. Repeat it with the actual full-course tuition and personal living costs before asking the family to commit.

Can lower fees help an IELTS 6 applicant?

Cost and English requirements are separate filters. The Teesside course publishes an IELTS 6.0 requirement, but you should still confirm its component conditions and academic prerequisites. Other courses may require a higher result or a paid preparation route. Compare the course-level IELTS guide before treating test scores as settled.

If January is important, use the January 2027 course checks. A cheaper September option is not a substitute for a confirmed January route unless you are willing to change your plan.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the cheapest UK master’s?

This research does not establish a nationwide cheapest course. It verifies selected fee examples and a method for finding a suitable budget route.

Can I use home tuition for my Indian student budget?

Only if the institution confirms that fee status applies to you. Otherwise use the appropriate international category.

Are low-fee courses easier to enter?

A lower tuition fee does not establish easier admission. Check the exact academic and English conditions.

Can I treat an advertised scholarship as guaranteed?

No. Verify eligibility and count an award in the committed budget only when it is confirmed.

Before selecting a course, compare other full-time analytics options and resolve your academic evidence. Official links above provide the fee evidence; ask for a complete intake-specific quotation.
