If your goal is applying analytics to organisational decisions, compare data analytics and business analytics alongside this France programme example.
An English-taught programme to investigate
The X-HEC MSc Data Science & AI for Business is jointly taught by École Polytechnique and HEC Paris. HEC lists English as the teaching language. Its overview describes a two-year programme combining quantitative and computing study with business applications. This guide examines one verified example; it is not an exhaustive list or ranking of French degrees.
Check programme fit
A business-oriented data science and AI degree should be assessed differently from a programme concentrating on theoretical machine learning or academic research. The name can include similar terms while the project expectations, compulsory curriculum and intended applicants differ.
| Priority | Evidence to inspect |
|---|---|
| AI or ML development | Required computing modules, modelling depth and project expectations |
| Business analytics | Decision-making, applied business projects and communication of findings |
| Research or PhD | Research preparation, thesis format and relevant academic supervision |
| Study in English | The official language statement for the exact programme and entry year |
What X-HEC asks applicants to prepare
HEC’s admissions page specifies strong mathematics and a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, business or economics. It lists academic transcripts, a CV, management test scores, English proficiency evidence or an applicable exemption, essays and references among the application materials. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed; the interview may include technical questions.
Meeting the minimum profile is not an admission guarantee. Use your transcript to explain quantitative preparation and your projects to demonstrate how you have applied it.
Build a complete study budget
- Check the programme’s dedicated fees page for the intended intake, including additional charges.
- Add accommodation, living expenses, travel and insurance to tuition.
- Confirm scholarship conditions separately; do not deduct funding that has not been awarded.
- Check the deadline and which test results or documents must arrive before it.
An English-taught degree establishes the teaching language. It does not establish the language requirements of every internship or job. When evaluating employment plans, check current vacancies in your target field for the skills and languages employers request.
Technical depth and business context are separate checks
A technically prepared applicant may want to deepen modelling or programming. Another applicant may want to apply quantitative work to organisational decisions. For both, examine compulsory modules and the final project using the course content audit. “AI for Business” is not sufficient evidence of either the technical depth or the level of prior preparation.
Use the academic evidence worksheet to organise mathematics and assessed computing before comparing your background with the programme’s current requirements.
Compare the pathway, not just the destination
Our Irish analytics comparison explores a business-oriented route alongside a more computing-focused route. The UK Data Science versus AI comparison provides another curriculum example. Use these pages to improve your questions, not to assume equivalent admission rules.
Two-year planning: a worked approach
In the study-budget worksheet, enter tuition and living expenses for every year, then map when deposits and later payments fall due. Keep scholarship applications separate from confirmed awards. The same method makes different course durations easier to compare without assuming future earnings.

A second French route: data analysis with a business specialisation
Alongside X-HEC, investigate the full-time analytics course shortlist. It records the campus programme rather than EDHEC’s separately offered online degrees. The course has business analytics and data-science specialisations; verify which pathway and award your application covers.
Separate programme duration from classroom months
For a degree that includes a later work-experience period, draw the whole study timeline before budgeting. Ask when assessed teaching ends, when work experience starts, when the project is submitted and when the award is conferred. Check where you may complete work experience, who arranges it and what support is provided if an employer does not offer a placement.
How to handle conflicting intake notices
The linked comparison identifies a conflict in EDHEC’s published application information. A generic annual window cannot establish that a particular 2027 application is open. Ask admissions for the course name, next available start, deadline for your degree category and applicable tuition. Keep the reply before paying.
Teaching language and employment preparation
Study in English can meet your academic preference while local-language preparation remains relevant to particular vacancies. Review several target employers’ job descriptions and distinguish required language from preferred language. An internship module does not establish that all placements operate in English or that a job will follow.
